HELP ONE Wins a 2025 AIA New York State Excelsior Award
Celebrating its 11th year, the AIANYS Excelsior Awards program highlights the best in publicly funded buildings, outdoor areas, and public art across New York State, and the architects and design professionals who support and advocate for them.
Thirteen projects were recognized for an award in the categories of Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, New Construction, and Renovation/Addition.
The interdisciplinary jury evaluated the projects based on a set of three criteria:
- Firmness: ensuring sound architectural and engineering principles and responsible use of public resources.
- Commodity: creating spaces that are truly functional and have a positive socio-economic impact on their communities.
- Delight: achieving beauty and harmony through respect for context, a focus on human scale, and a deep understanding of the needs, both spoken and unspoken, of the people who will use these spaces.
Among them is C+GA’s HELP ONE Buildings A + B. This four-building mixed-use complex in Brooklyn provides affordable and supportive housing with a focus on art, care, and sustainability, fostering a nurturing environment for vulnerable residents.
Jury Chair Anthony E. Rojas, AIA, stated, “As a jury, we were enthusiastic in reviewing a wide variety of unique design approaches and integrated technological solutions to architecture in the built environment. Pushing the boundaries and advancing the baseline expectations of aesthetics, performance, and public engagement sets a new precedent which all projects should strive to achieve. Congratulations to all project submissions and especially those recognized as recipients of these 2025 AIA New York State Excelsior Awards.”
The recipients were honored, and the award levels were revealed this week at an in-person celebration at the Renaissance Albany Hotel in Albany.
The American Institute of Architects New York State, composed of 13 statewide chapters representing over 9,500 architecture professionals, is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating excellence in architecture, advocating for the profession, and fostering a community of architects committed to advancing the built environment.
Thank you AIANYS for this honor.
