Story Park Comfort Station

Designed with functional aesthetics, the Story Park Comfort Station provides park visitors with a place for gathering and protection from weather. Beyond simply accommodating bathroom and park facilities, the structure is an integral part of the park, conveniently situated adjacent to the children’s play and open lawn areas. Along with the integration of sustainable materials and systems, the design and selection of materials considers the importance of water to the site, which filled in a tributary of Pugsley Creek.  A band of clerestory windows circumscribe the building, providing natural light and ventilation, and the inclined roof with overhang provides weather protection and sun shading. The Comfort Station is part of the reconstruction of Story (PS 100) Playground in the Bronx.
